Oman Society for Petroleum Services (Opal) was licensed by the Occupational Standards Centre (OSC), under the Ministry of Manpower, to create the Sector Skills Unit (SSU) for Oman’s oil and gas sector.
The license was issued at the headquarters of Ministry of Manpower on Tuesday.
The Human Resources Committee for the In-Country Value Programme (ICV), on behalf of the Oman Ministry of Oil and Gas, is working to see its national workforce enhanced by improving the sector’s occupational standards.
It will be the first time that Oman will see such a license, that looks to help entities be ready for any needs that the labour market might require. In addition, it will help to provide the education and training to deliver the information and knowledge.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, his Excellency Salem bin Nasser Al Awfi, said “The initiative comes in line with the directions of the development programme of the ICV committee supervised by the Ministry of Oil and Gas. It also serves one of the principal goals that the Ministry seeks to achieve; that is developing the competence and capabilities of national workforce so they can meet the labour market needs and requirements. This can only be achieved through a close partnership between all the parties concerned, towards supporting Omanisationin the oil and gas sector.”
Director of OSC, Dr Mohamad Al-Najjar stated, “Developing the industry ready local workforce is of utmost importance for the success of Omanisation efforts. OSC will be regulating the development of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and its applications through SSUs to align the skill development efforts in the Sultanate to meet industry demands.”
